Damon Maxwell’s work is a celebration of life itself. With his use of vibrant color, organic and geometric shapes, and deep painterly textures, Maxwell’s art conveys a sense excitement, vitality and wonder. “I like my paintings to be spaces where people have the freedom to explore and to make personal discoveries, something akin to a child on a treasure hunt,” says Maxwell. Even in his most abstract pieces, it is not uncommon to find some subtle reference to the human form, which serves as the most central icon in Maxwell's work. Often using unconventional or recycled materials, Maxwell’s work creates a vision where form and function collide. The result is art that resides in that fertile crescent that lies just between the lands of representation and abstraction.
Maxwell received his BFA in fine art from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
He has shown extensively in the Northwest including multiple group and solo exhibitions.
He has received various awards including the international Liquitex Excellence in Art award.
Maxwell currently lives just outside the city of Seattle, Washington where he maintains his studio.
